Minimum Wage?

Minimum wage in Florida is $6.79 last time i checked. If u have a job that includes tips, you dont have to be paid minimum wage. My question is if i work and my hourly wage and tips add up to less then minimum wage per hour, are they required to pay me more money so my hourly wage and tips is equal to minimum wage?

1. yes. it's federal law - and should be posted somewhere for employees to see at your workplace. it must be your average tips + hourly though; if you make 100 in tips in one hour and then nothing for the next couple hours, if your tips for the night, plus hourly for the night, divided by hours worked, equals more than minimum wage, they don't owe you anything. tips are generally calculated as 10 to 15% of your total tabs for the night though, so don't go by what you actually have.
2. They should. That's messed up. I don't get how ppl survive off such little pay. I can't even live off $12 p/hr. so that's just ridiculous.
